Amsterdam can be taken as two cities merged into one. There is so much to see that a weekend getaway might not be enough for you. However, if that’s all you have, I have some spots for you to prioritise and make the most out of your trip. It’s not just about the Red Light District, Tulips, and Van Gogh.
Brunch at Cafe Georgette on P.C. Hoofstraat
PC Hoofstraat is a street will every designer store you can think of. You don’t have to get something, just explore the beautiful display. And in walks Cafe Georgette. It’s a Parisian-themed cafe that serves breakfast, lunch, and pastries that are to die for. When you’re done you can take a walk to Moco Museum, Rijksmuseum, or Van Gogh.
Walk around Albert Cuyp Market
If you’re looking for a market selling practically everything under the sun, this is it. Waffles, clothes, fish, souvenirs, you name it. One thing we love about it is that you can grab a cup of coffee or any drink from one of the stands and explore the market while enjoying your drink. Pick something for people back home. However, if all you have is 24 hours or less, well you have to skip this place.
Rent a Bike
In Amsterdam, a bike is one of the best ways to get around and see the sights. You’ll be able to cover a wider area than if you’re walking and also you get some exercise. It allows you to see the sights efficiently and hop from one Amsterdam museum to another.
Our advice, rent a bike through a guided tour to get a good overview of the city if it’s your first time. After that, you can do it on your own without needing a guide.
Dinner at Nooch
If you want a taste of Asia in Amsterdam, Nooch is the place to go. Actually, you can walk there straight from the Albert Cuyp Market. They have Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, and Thai. the only problem is making your choice from a wide variety of delicacies. No wonder the place is always packed. To be safe, make reservations before your visit.
Get Drinks at Lion Noir
This is a bar and restaurant that is smack in the middle of Amsterdam center. We’d recommend it for the ambience alone. They have a huge cocktail menu that includes classics and their own custom made concoctions.
